Getting to appointments is one of the main reasons adults stop going to therapy. If you cannot drive after a stroke, or the fatigue makes a round trip impossible, telehealth is not a compromise. It is often the thing that makes therapy possible at all.
Who telehealth works well for
- People who cannot drive, or who have lost their license after a stroke or seizure
- People for whom travel is exhausting, or who tire quickly
- People who live a long way from Cherry Hill but want a specialist
- People juggling work or school schedules
- People who want follow-up check-ins after finishing in-office therapy
- Family members and caregivers joining from a different house or a different state
What we can treat by video
- Aphasia and other language difficulties after stroke
- Cognitive-communication, memory and executive function
- Voice, including neurologic voice disorders
- Parkinson’s speech programs
- Speech clarity, apraxia and dysarthria
- Stuttering
- Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC)
- Aspects of dysphagia — see the note below
- Caregiver and family training
Where video genuinely is not enough
Hands-on swallowing treatment has to happen in the office. Neuromuscular electrical stimulation and Ampcare ESP™ involve placing electrodes on your neck, which nobody can do down a webcam.
Plenty of people run a hybrid: in-office for the hands-on part of a dysphagia plan, video for everything else. We will tell you plainly which parts of your plan need which.
What a virtual session looks like
Sessions are held over HIPAA-compliant video and audio software. You get an emailed link. You click it at your appointment time and your therapist is there.
During the session your therapist shares resources on screen and gives you direct feedback, exactly as they would in the room. You do not need to create an account or install anything.
Setting yourself up
- Any device with a camera works — laptop, tablet or phone
- Sit at a table or desk if you can, rather than on the sofa
- Somewhere quiet, with light in front of you rather than behind you
- Have paper and a pen nearby
- Log on a couple of minutes early for the first session
If technology is a worry, say so when you book. We will do a short setup call beforehand rather than spending your first session troubleshooting.
One real advantage of working from your home
Therapy is meant to change what you can do outside the treatment room. When we meet you at home, we are already there.
We can work with your actual medication organizer, your actual wall calendar, your actual kitchen. For memory and executive function work in particular, that is often more useful than anything we could set up in the office.
Where we are licensed
Our clinicians are licensed in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. You need to be physically located in one of those two states at the time of your session — that is a licensing rule rather than a preference, so let us know if you are going to be travelling.
That covers every New Jersey county, and on the Pennsylvania side it includes Philadelphia, Bucks, Montgomery, Delaware and Chester counties.
Who this is for
- Adults and teenagers — we do not treat young children
- Anyone located in New Jersey or Pennsylvania during their session
- People who can see and hear the screen well enough to take part, with glasses or hearing aids if you use them
- People happy to have a family member or caregiver nearby if that helps
Not sure whether it suits you? Say so when you call. Most people are surprised by how similar it feels, and if it turns out not to work for you, we will switch you to the office.
Insurance and rates
Telehealth is billed exactly like an in-office visit. We are in network with Aetna, Allied, AmeriHealth/IBC, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, GEHA, Imagine 360, Medrisk, Medicare Part B, Meritain, Tricare and United Healthcare.
Self-pay rates are $250 per hour for an evaluation and $120 for treatment, with a free 15-minute consultation call first. You get a Good Faith Estimate in writing before we begin.
What people say
A telehealth client's own words go here. Insight has 33 five-star Google reviews but none of the text we could verify is specifically about a virtual session. Sophia: if a telehealth client has written or said something usable, this is where it goes.
Questions about online speech therapy
Do I need special equipment?
No. All you need is a device with a camera — a laptop, tablet, or phone — and an internet connection.
It helps to sit comfortably at a table or desk so you can take part fully, and to be somewhere reasonably quiet with the light in front of you rather than behind you. That is genuinely the whole setup.
Is video therapy private and secure?
Yes. Sessions are held over HIPAA-compliant video and audio software.
You receive an emailed link to join your therapist. There is no account to create and nothing to install. Your therapist can share materials on screen and give you feedback in real time, the same way they would across a table.
Is telehealth as good as being in the room?
For most of what we do, yes — and many people are surprised by how similar it feels.
Video works well for aphasia, cognitive-communication, executive function, voice, Parkinson's speech programs, speech clarity and caregiver training. There is good evidence behind remote delivery for these areas, and there is a practical advantage too: we are working with you in the actual kitchen, at the actual calendar on your actual wall.
Hands-on swallowing treatment is the clear exception. Electrical stimulation cannot be delivered remotely.
Can you treat my swallowing by video?
Partly, and we will be straight with you about which parts.
By video we can take a history, observe your swallow on camera, teach and review exercises, adjust your technique, and train your family on mealtime strategies.
What needs the office is the hands-on work: neuromuscular electrical stimulation, Ampcare ESP, and any assessment requiring direct physical examination. Plenty of people do a hybrid — coming in for the hands-on portion and doing everything else from home.
Where do you have to be for me to see you online?
Physically located in New Jersey or Pennsylvania at the time of the session.
This is a licensing rule, not a preference: speech-language pathologists are licensed by state, and we are licensed in both. Where you live matters less than where you are sitting when the session starts, so tell us if you will be away.
That covers all of New Jersey and the whole of the greater Philadelphia region including Philadelphia, Bucks, Montgomery, Delaware and Chester counties.
Does insurance cover telehealth?
Most of our in-network plans cover telehealth speech therapy, but coverage varies by plan and it does change.
Call the number on the back of your card and ask specifically whether your speech therapy benefit covers telehealth visits, and whether a referral is required. Or call us on (856) 200-8392 and we will tell you what to ask.
