Why Insight exists
Recovery does not end when you leave the hospital
Sophia Apgar founded Insight in 2023 after seeing the same problem again and again: people with serious communication and swallowing needs were being sent home without the specialist support they needed.
Someone could walk independently after a stroke and still be unable to talk to their family. Someone with Parkinson’s could notice their voice getting quieter and their swallowing changing, and not know where to turn. Someone with voice changes was told to just rest their voice.
So Insight was built around a different idea. Speech therapy should help people take part in their lives, not just complete exercises in a therapy room.
We measure progress by what happens outside our office
Not by scores on a worksheet.
Having a conversation
With your husband, your wife, your daughter — and being understood the first time.
Eating and drinking safely
Getting through a meal without coughing, and back to food you had given up on.
Making a phone call
On your own, without needing somebody else to speak for you.
Going back to work
Managing a schedule, following a meeting, holding the thread of a task.
Taking your medication
Remembering it, on time, without someone having to check.
Being part of family life
Sitting at the table and staying in the conversation rather than watching it.

Are you a clinician?
We take referrals from neurologists, ENTs, gastroenterologists, and hospital and skilled nursing discharge planners. Fax a referral, or send your patient with something they can hand over.
Are you the patient?
You do not have to wait for your doctor to suggest us. Many people start by asking their own physician for a referral to an outside practice. We have a one-page sheet you can print and take to your next appointment.
Questions people ask before they call
Do you treat children?
No. We treat adults and teenagers only. Most independent speech practices in South Jersey are pediatric, so families often have to look hard to find adult care. That is the gap we exist to fill. Our clinicians spend the whole week on adult neurologic rehabilitation, which is how they stay good at it.
What conditions do you treat?
Stroke and aphasia, apraxia of speech, dysarthria, primary progressive aphasia, Parkinson's disease, traumatic and acquired brain injury, dysphagia (swallowing problems), voice disorders, memory and executive function changes, mild cognitive impairment and dementia, stuttering, and adult AAC.
If you are not sure whether we are the right fit, call us. We would rather tell you honestly than take an appointment we cannot help with.
Where do you see people?
In our office at the Executive Mews in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, and by video anywhere in New Jersey or Pennsylvania. Some people do a mix of both.
Do I need a doctor's referral?
It depends on your insurance plan, not on us. Some plans require a referral or prior authorisation from your primary care doctor before they will cover speech therapy. Call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask, or call us and we will help you work out what to ask.
How long does therapy take?
It depends on what you are working on and where you are starting from. Most people begin with weekly or twice-weekly sessions. Some people want a faster, more concentrated approach, and for them we run intensive programs over two to four weeks.
Is it too late for me to start?
Almost certainly not. People often come to us years after a stroke or a diagnosis, having been told that their recovery window closed. Therapy can still help. It can help at any stage, including with progressive conditions, where the goal shifts toward keeping the skills you have for as long as possible.
